I was tasked by a family member to create a t-shirt design for our family vacation this summer. The design is inspired by various advertisements and souvenirs from vintage Hawaiian and Polynesian hotels, bars, shops, etc., but mostly from vintage hotel/bar matchbooks.
To gain inspiration, I searched for vintage advertisements with a Pacific Island aesthetic, and ended up coming across a lot of matchbooks that had a very specific style, with few colors used, but still with a tropical look. An exaggerated sunset was a common theme I saw, which I decided to include in my design. I put it all together in Adobe Illustrator.
